The Time Sylvester Stallone Taught Kurt Russell to Play Polo

Aired on 12/04/1989 | CC tv-pg
In 1989, moviegoers were introduced to Tango & Cash, a buddy-cop movie starring Hollywood heavyweights Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. The co-stars came on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1989 to talk about working on the movie, and both actors raved about the experience.

"It was so much fun because we hit it off," Sylvester said.

Despite being far less of an exercise enthusiast than his co-star, Kurt managed to impress Sylvester, who became famous for his turn as boxer Rocky Balboa, by demonstrating some natural talent upon playing polo for the first time. Sylvester regarded Kurt as a "great athlete," emphasizing the tremendous amount of skill it takes to play the equestrian sport: "Hitting the [polo] ball is like trying to play golf during an earthquake; it's that difficult."
