The Power in Forgiving Before an Apology

CC | tv-pg
In 2003, Oprah invited various teenagers to the show who all shared one thing in common: They all desired better relationships with their fathers. Roland C. Warren, from the National Fatherhood Initiative, comes on the show to provide guidance on what healthy and holistic fathering entails.

After the show, which took a close look at the struggles each teen had faced in their less-than-ideal relationships with their dads, Roland spoke on the topic of forgiveness and why, "If you don't have the willingness to forgive, no apology will do."

Forgiving their fathers is the first step toward forging stronger bonds for these teens, and Oprah let them know they have a great chance of achieving their goals—especially if they remember this: "You are powerful based on your ability to ask for what you want."
