Season 17: "Good News!"
On September 17, 2002, Oprah kicked off her 17th season on a positive note. "Over the summer, I got sick of all the bad news," she said. "So to celebrate the 17th year, I wanted to celebrate the summer with some good news."
Among those who got good news were fans of American Idol's Justin Guarini, who got a surprise visit from the singer; a beloved University of Las Vegas basketball coach whose team got her tickets to see The Oprah Show; and a couple celebrating their anniversary in Vegas who got a penthouse upgrade courtesy of Oprah.
Oprah also had good news for a kindergarten teacher named Diane Furuta. For one day, Oprah took over her class while Diane enjoyed a relaxing day at the spa! "My hat's off to Mrs. Furuta because this is a lot of work," Oprah says.
