James T. Pickens plays Dr. Richard Webber, Seattle Grace's chief of surgery. His character has an adulterous past with Meredith's mother, Dr. Ellis Grey, who now suffers from Alzheimer's. The affair broke up Ellis's marriage, but the chief ended it when he decided to stay with his wife. James has been acting for 25 years and says the success of the show is definitely surreal. "These kinds of things come along I think once in an actor's career and to be involved in something like this with a cast like this, with a writing staff, with somebody like Shonda, it's more than an actor can ask for," James says. "We don't take it lightly, take it for granted. It's a great ride." |
