At first, DeeDee says her parents didn't want her to join an all-female rap group. "My dad and my mom were, of course, like most parents: 'No, you're not going on the road at 16,'" DeeDee says. "I was in high school, so Salt-N-Pepa had to come and convince my parents that they would take care of me." Cheryl promised she would take care of DeeDee, but Sandy had other plans.
