In Things We Lost in the Fire, Halle plays Audrey, a mother of two trying to cope with the sudden loss of her husband. Her co-star, Benicio Del Toro, plays Jerry, her dead husband's oldest friend—a heroin addict she's always detested for his weakness. Together, the widow and troubled junkie struggle to heal.
Apart from the gripping script and opportunity to work with Benicio, Halle says she was excited by the chance to work with the film's director, Susanne Bier. "I always love working with strong women," she says.
