Dr. Robin recently closed her private practice after 20 years. Although it was hard for her to say goodbye, she says it was a positive move. "Why would I want to wait until I'm so exhausted and so tired and I don't want to be there?" Dr. Robin says. "Why would I wait for it to become sour?"
Dr. Robin says it is important to let go of things in your life while they are still good. "Sometimes people wait for things to go sour—they wait for relationships to get really funky and bad and destructive," Dr. Robin says. "We use negativity for our barometer for whether or not something is working and whether or not we should change something and make movement."
Dr. Robin says if you love your job, you shouldn't necessarily stay there until you don't love it anymore. She says sometimes loving your job is the very thing that will feed your soul and will give you the courage so that you can take the next step into the next job and find greater joy. "There is something waiting for you and for me," she says. "Just make sure you learn to leave while it's still sweet and good."
