What's Possible!
Bob Greene

In 2006, former CNN news anchor Daryn Kagan was faced with the question of what her next career move would be after the company did not renew her contract. After more than 20 years in the journalism industry, Daryn decided she wanted to do something inspirational. Bob talks with Daryn about her latest projects, including her website and book.

When CNN decided not to renew her contract, Daryn decided to turn her misfortune into a new opportunity. "A big bummer can be your be your big chance," Daryn says. "Even if I went and got that next traditional news job, I could see where the business was going. Because of technology and how the economy was going, probably within three or four years I would be out of that job as well. At some point, I was going to have to reinvent myself."

After visiting a war reporting website, Daryn asked herself what her favorite kind of reporting was, and, if she had a website, what would it be about. "My favorite stories were always the inspiring ones—the ones that made your heart go zing and show you what's possible," she says. Daryn started DarynKagan.com*, a website dedicated to telling inspirations stories about people who do extraordinary things in face of terrible circumstances.

Daryn also published her book What's Possible!, which profiles individuals who have overcome obstacles, from physical struggles to financial problems. "These are all people who have found a way to get past ‘I can't' and go on, not just to overcome their obstacle, but make a real difference in the world," Daryn says. "I want people to read the book and think about how they can inspire their own What's Possible! dream."
