Bob answers e-mails and phone calls from people across the country looking for weight loss and fitness advice. Bob talks with Candy, who is trying to lose 130 pounds and is struggling to stay on a weight loss program. "This is just the one thing in my life I am not happy with," Candy says. "I am not happy with the way I look, the way I feel."
For the past few weeks, Candy says she has been on a diet and has lost 10 pounds, but she finds it difficult to maintain healthy eating habits and exercise. "I am really to the point now where I am ready to do this for myself, but I find it hard to keep up with it," she says.
Bob says before Candy can commit to losing weight, she needs to realize that she is worth the effort. "A lot of women that I work with that are really wanting to lose weight and consistently sabotaging their own efforts have this core belief that, 'Hey, I am not deserving to live a perfect life,'" Bob says. While Candy says she has struggled with realizing her self-worth, she says she is committed to losing the weight this time. "I've spent so much of my life with this being the monkey on my back, and I want to live my life how I want to live it," Candy says. "I want to be more active with my kids and my husband and do the things I want to do."
While Candy says she is ready to get serious about diet and exercise, Bob says it's important that her spouse and family get on board to support her. Bob also says Candy needs to reinforce to herself every day that she is worth it and a healthy weight can be a part of her life. "It is really about moving more and eating a little bit less and losing a pound or two a week," Bob says. Over the next few months Bob says he will keep tabs and Candy's progress and have her call in to report her weight loss progress.
