School shootings, like the one at Virginia Tech, seem to have increased in recent years and Dr. Robin says it is time to ask ourselves why such events are taking place. "My hope is with this school shooting we are going to finally dig deeply," Dr. Robin says. "The truth of the matter is it is not rare anymore for guns to show up in schools, in rural or suburban or urban areas and for a lot of people to end up dead."
Dr. Robin says we need to learn from the shooting at Virginia Tech and become armed and dangerous with information on warning signs of troubled people. "This young man who took many lives…we don't know all of the details, but what I do know was something was really troubling in his mind, in his spirit, in his soul," Dr. Robin says.
By paying attention to the world around you, Dr. Robin says you can prevent a disaster. Instead of ignoring warning signs of depression from someone, Dr. Robin says you should take their words and actions to heart and pay attention to their feelings and your own. "Turn around today, face into whatever it is that has been going on in your life and make the decision to take action."
