Treating Arthritis and Migraines
Dr. Mehmet Oz
When it comes to eliminating chronic pain, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum is an expert in the field. Dr. Oz has talked with Dr. Teitelbaum in the past about his groundbreaking treatment for fibromyalgia , and now, Dr. Teitelbaum shares some of his proven ways of treating two other painful conditions—arthritis and migraine headaches.

Arthritis
Arthritis is often treated with over-the-counter pain killers, but Dr. Teitelbaum says natural remedies can be just as effective and safe. He shares tips on how to manage arthritis pain:
  • Supplements: "Give your joints a six-week spa program," Dr. Teitelbaum says. Take glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and MSM supplements for six to eight weeks to help joints to heal up, he says.
  • Dietary changes: To help decrease inflammation, Dr. Teitelbaum says you shouldn't eat meats from grain-fed animals—their fats trigger inflammation. Switch to grass-fed beef and increase the amount of fish you consume. Also, avoid white flour and sugar, two other foods that can increase inflammation.
  • Natural remedies: Willow bark (frankincense) can give you the benefits of aspirin but is easier on your stomach, Dr. Teitelbaum says. Cherries, which are loaded with antioxidants, also ease inflammation and can be eaten raw or drank as juice.
  • Heat therapy: Wrap a fabric microwavable heating pad that is filled with grains around your joints to increase flexibility.
Migraines
More than 25 million Americans suffer from migraines, Dr. Oz says, but Dr. Teitelbaum says they are easy to prevent naturally:
  • Vitamins: Dr. Teitelbaum says taking vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin, every day has been proven to decrease migraines by 68 percent.
  • Intravenous magnesium sulfate: You will have to be in an emergency room or a doctor's office to receive it, but Dr. Teitelbaum says the quickest and most effective way to eliminate an acute migraine headache is with an intravenous shot of magnesium sulfate. "[In] over 85 percent of cases, it will eliminate the migraine in 15 minutes, and that attack won't come back."
