Recently, Vanity Fair published pictures from a photo shoot of 15-year-old Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus. Rabbi Shmuley says some of the pictures were a little too revealing, considering the teen star's age. "Young girls are being sexualized at an increasingly early age," he says.
Rabbi Shmuley says the Miley Cyrus controversy should be a wake-up call to parents. He takes a closer look at the issue, from talking to your own teenage daughter about self-respect, to the dangers of growing up too fast, to sending a strong message to the media that the sexual exploitation of young girls for commercial profit is unacceptable. Today's Shmuleyism "The line that once separated the female recording industry from soft porn is gradually being erased. Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand and Nora Jones succeeded because of their undeniable talent rather than their exposed midriffs. The message we must send to Miley Cyrus and a new generation of female artists is that they should be wholesome role models of young women who get by on their talent rather than shock value."
