By now, you have likely heard of The Secret—both a DVD and a book edited by Australian documentary filmmaker Rhonda Byrne. The Secret made its way to the top of The New York Times best-seller list seemingly overnight. Along with its success, The Secret has stirred up a great deal of controversy as well.

To explore both the good and the bad buzz that The Secret has generated, Oprah is joined by a woman who says she knows the secret behind The Secret. For more than 20 years, Esther Hicks says she and her husband Jerry have been spreading the word of that secret to thousands and teaching the law of attraction—a concept that states like attracts like.

Esther says that she and her husband were invited to be contributing experts on The Secret because of their comprehensive knowledge of the law of attraction, although they removed themselves from the project subsequent to the initial release of the DVD. "Jerry and I have a wonderful life and lots of great things have happened to us, but watching what Rhonda [Byrne] accomplished with The Secret was maybe the best example I've ever seen of someone holding steadily to a thought or an idea and not letting anyone divert them from their idea. … I think that what happened to The Secret is a really good example of someone deliberately applying the law of attraction," she says.

In describing the success of The Secret, Oprah says, "It has been marketed and packaged in such a way that people of our generation, of this time, can receive it in a way that perhaps they couldn't have received it from other philosophers."
