Dr. Mehmet Oz

Unlike the European Union, which has a ban on most genetically modified foods, the United States grows such crops liberally and with little to no regulation, says filmmaker Deborah Koons Garcia. Dr. Oz talks with Deborah—who is also the widow of musician Jerry Garcia—about her film The Future of Food.

The film analyzes why the United States is forging ahead with the mass production of genetically modified crops and what the negative consequences of this choice could be in the future. Deborah also talks about the small pool of companies from which farmers are now limited to buying their seeds and why the United States needs to move away from industrial agriculture to more local agriculture.
