According to Bill Lloyd, a "dude" is a guy who likes fried food, electronic gadgets and professional sports…and when it comes to pregnancy, dudes are totally in the dark. Holly and Rodney talk with Bill, author of The Dudes' Guide to Pregnancy: Dealing with Your Expecting Wife, Coming Baby, and the End of Life as You Knew It, about his hilarious advice for fathers-to-be.
When a couple gets pregnant, Bill says men need to be prepared for unpredictable behavior from their partners. His best piece of advice for handling any tough situation that may arise is quite simple: Lie. "Any questions that can come up during a pregnancy, a lie is the best way to handle it, guys," he says. "Lie, and it will make life much more comfortable for you for nine months or maybe several years thereafter."
Men should also be prepared for their partner's body to transform and her dietary needs to change, Bill says. He says the bizarre food cravings of pregnant women often catch dudes off guard. "It's very common, but it's not talked about very much," he says. "It's those cravings that aren't necessarily for something specific but just come out of nowhere. It's the cravings where the wife—mother-to-be—says, 'Get me some food now!' in a voice that clearly isn't her own."
