The Difference Reader Profile: Marlyn
Marlyn D.

Name: Marlyn

Occupation: Holistic nutritionist

Personal life: Married with two boys, ages 9 and 6
Biggest financial concerns:
These last few months have been a trying time in my personal family life. My husband closed his family business after 35 years. He was blessed to get another job, and for that we are very grateful. With the closing of the business came much debt and expenses that used to be paid by the family company but we are now incurring. While we are trying to regain control over our current financial situation, I'm also concerned about how we can save for the future. It seems the traditional methods of investments, such as real estate and the stock market, are unstable, and the banking system is in trouble.

Lessons learned from The Difference: I really don't know if I would be doing as well if it hadn't been for The Difference and Jean's radio shows. Reading The Difference is making me aware of some of the necessary qualities it takes to weather the storm and come out on top. By being optimistic and making good financial choices, I know we will be better off in the long run for many reasons. During some of the tough moments, I can see how resilience has helped us move forward.

Before reading The Difference, I could never quite put a word with that feeling and voice inside of me that would keep me strong and enable me to move forward…even after I had fallen. Now I know that is resilience.

Since finishing the book, I find myself living The Difference! I am so filled up and empowered by the wisdom, the knowledge and the stories. For me, this book has come at such an appropriate time in my life. I continue to refer to the word "resilience" in my head as I move forward through some of the recent changes in my personal life. My husband and I are continuing to expand and look at things in a whole new light. I have learned so much about myself and now feel I have great tools and information to create a better, more enriched life when it comes to our finances.

Favorite chapter from The Difference: Being a nutritionist and knowing the benefits of good health, I love the chapter on saving and the direct correlation it has on one's healing and health. I also love how, through her research, Jean has discovered how important exercise is and how there was a direct connection with those that were financially comfortable.

I know that I'm in a transitional period, and it is a great feeling to shed the weight of past financial mistakes and the guilt that goes along with them!
