The Cheerleading Debate

Oprah.com   |   September 15, 2008
Rabbi Shmuley
Since the early beginnings of the Greek Olympic Games, Rabbi Shmuley says that men have dominated athletic pursuits while women, until recently, have been relegated to the viewing stands. As children begin their fall sports seasons, Rabbi Shmuley wonders about the athletic value of cheerleading, the message it sends to teenage girls—women cheering on the sidelines for male athletes—and if the tradition should be retired. Rabbi Shmuley talks with callers about why women are still on the sidelines in male-dominated sports.
