Best known for his role on CSI: NY, Hill Harper has many accomplishments under his belt, including a national bestselling book, an Ivy League education and a booming acting career. Hill talks to Gayle about his book Letters to a Young Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny and what he says we should all be looking for in love and in life.

A series of letters covering topics ranging from relationships to depression, Letters to a Young Sister covers many struggles in life that a young woman might face. But Hill says no matter what hardships we go through, we all have the potential to achieve great things. "I think there's a misnomer out there that we can only do one thing well," Hill says. "I believe you can be a master of many things—I truly believe that all of us are brilliant. We all have that capacity."

Hill says he lives with the philosophy that there are many different paths to choose in life, which he compares to choosing a kind of chocolate cake. "If you take and compare a real dense, dark chocolate cake and a Ho Ho cake, they are both chocolate, but one is very light and has no substance and [has] artificial flavors—the other is full of energy and richness and you can taste it," Hill says. "That's how I want people to live their lives—I want people to live a rich, dark-chocolate-cake life, not a Ho-Ho life."
