Between stressful meetings, returning phone calls, taking care of your family and making time for friends, it can often seem as though you have a million things to juggle. Dr. Robin says it's easy to hustle through life, get in your car and go, go, go…but sometimes you need to stop rushing and enjoy the present moment.
Instead of getting on the expressway to go home, Dr. Robin says she recently took the scenic route and found peace in the river and hills that surrounded her. "The saving of those 10 or 15 minutes [by taking the expressway] could not begin to equate with what my soul needed—the soul food that the river and the trees [provided]," she says. "I had the wisdom to say, 'Robin, take the long route today'—the long route, which takes more time, is actually what your soul is thirsting for." The next time you're stressed out and overbooked, Dr. Robin says you should look for a way to connect with the beauty of nature and, through that, find new energy to help you get through the day. "What is in your environment right now that can build you up for the moment you are living?" she asks. "I [took] the long route home and have the gift and the blessing of edifying my mind and relaxing my body and just reinvigorating myself for the journey ahead." Published on June 02, 2008
