Teaching women how to financially plan so that they can leave an abusive relationship is an important part of Suze Orman's book Women & Money: Owning the Power to Control Your Destiny . Suze talks with Gayle about her book and her recent appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show , when she helped a newly widowed woman who had been in a controlling marriage reclaim her finances and her life.

Suze says she has found that many women in abusive relationships can't leave their situations because they don't have money to support their families on their own. To help women find a way to break free, Suze says she developed the "Save Yourself Plan," which she details in Women & Money . She says it's a step-by-step guide aimed to help women obtain financial security, no matter how little money they have or what kind of relationship they may be in. "I simply ask women to give me one day a month—it could be three hours here, a few hours there—for five consecutive months, and I will show you exactly what to do so you never get in a situation [where you can't leave an abusive relationship]," Suze says.
