![]() She was the first plus-sized supermodel, the former host of E!'s Fashion Emergency and a two-time pick for People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People list. More recently, Emme Aronson's dedication has focused on her family, and in particular, her husband Phil's depression. Gayle talks with Emme and Phil about the couple's struggle through Phil's clinical depression, which is detailed in their new book Morning Has Broken: A Couple's Journey Through Depression.
Emme and Phil had a successful marriage and a newborn baby when Phil sank into a deep depression. While Emme says she worked with Phil through his illness, she was often frustrated. Between a suicide attempt and a laundry list of medications, Phil says he struggled to find a way out of the darkness of depression. Phil says he lost four years of his life fighting with the symptoms, from excruciating pain in his lower body to the inability to care for himself or his daughter. Today, after much therapy and treatment, Phil says he is working hard to keep his mind and body healthy. Emme and Phil say they write candidly in their book about the pain and frustration they experienced working through Phil's depression to help educate people about the illness. "Depression is not a weakness, it is a disease," Phil says. Published on March 23, 2007
