According to Rabbi Shmuley, the United States has a responsibility as one of the most powerful nations on earth to intervene on the behalf of the innocent victims of genocide. Historically, this has not always been the course of action that the American government has taken, he says.

Rabbi Shmuley talks about why the United States has an obligation to put politics aside and work with its allies to try to stop genocide around the globe. "This is not a political issue, but a humanitarian one," he says. "And people from both parties should support the end of genocide."

"Tolerating the intolerable, especially when it comes to genocide, is the liberalism of fools and is a sin against God and all humanity. We are our brothers' keepers. We who live in the United States, who witnessed the abomination of the enslavement of our black brothers and sisters and who witnessed President Roosevelt's refusal to bomb the train tracks to Auschwitz in the Holocaust must learn from our own history and commit ourselves to ending the genocide in Sudan immediately. If we don't, how can we argue that our great economic and military might is really put to the best possible use?"
