Gayle and Kelly Rowland
She is a Grammy Award-winning singer who rose to fame with the hit group Destiny's Child. Now, Kelly Rowland is a solo artist releasing her second album, Ms. Kelly. Kelly talks with Gayle about the album and explains her reason for writing several personal songs.

Unlike her first solo album, which was released in 2002, Kelly says she took her time writing and recording songs for Ms. Kelly because she was trying to convey a message. "On this album, I thought it was really important for me to come across as 'Kelly Rowland' and not so much as 'Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child,'" she says. "It was important to me to have people hear me, just the one voice." Kelly says that she loves that her album's title is Ms. Kelly. "Ms. Kelly is really sassy and confident and personal, of course, with my name on it," she says.

Kelly says the she cowrote many of the songs on the album, often sharing her feelings about painful past relationships. "It wasn't really difficult," she says. "I felt like my time in the studio was like therapy for me as I was able to write down everything."

As for any new love interests in her life, Kelly says she is single right now and is going to take it slow the next time she meets a guy she wants to be with. "It is hard to find somebody who understands the fact that I travel so much and to find a secure man or somebody who is not trying to take me around as a trophy piece," she says.
