Gayle is a self-proclaimed news junkie, which is why every Friday night, she tunes in to VH1's Best Week Ever. Okay, so it may be the latest on celebrities as opposed to politicians, but it still is news! Gayle welcomes Sherrod Small, a comedian and panelist on the show, to talk about the hilarious news that's often featured on Best Week Ever.
On Best Week Ever, panelists give their takes on the hot celeb news of the past week. No celebrity is spared—even Gayle has been the butt of their jokes on several occasions!
"The stuff is so clever and so funny that even when I'm being ridiculed, I had to say, 'You know, that's pretty good,'" Gayle says. "I may not like it, but that was actually funny!"
Sherrod says there is a team of writers, producers and interns who watch TV to come up with topics. "Those poor people," Sherrod jokes. "They watch TV all day and pull up the hottest stuff on TV and they give it to us and then we just talk about it."
None of the show is prescripted, Sherrod says. Before the show starts, he receives a list of topics, and from there, Sherrod ad-libs his thoughts.
Prior to his gig on Best Week Ever, Sherrod worked as a writer and producer on Comedy Central's Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and, for a time, worked on The Chris Rock Show. "I was like a kinda writer, like an associate writer type of thing." And what is a 'kinda writer?' Gayle wants to know. "They didn't pay me like a writer," Sherrod jokes. "The writers had big checks. I had a ham sandwich. That's the difference."
Today, in addition to his work on Best Week Ever, Sherrod does stand-up comedy almost every night in New York City. He says he'd like to continue working on TV. "I don't want to do a talk show—I want to do something different," he says. "I want to have a taste of like what Best Week does, but just more me. Maybe Best Sherrod Ever!"
