Second Injuries

Dr. Robin Smith
Whether your injuries are physical or emotional, they're always harder to heal the second time around, Dr. Robin says. When you're been hurt, you need to protect yourself. "The rule of thumb is that place in you that is most vulnerable demands, deserves and must get special care and treatment. That means you don't allow people around your injury that are going to hurt you," she says.

Dr. Robin says it's important to stop the cycle of allowing yourself to be harmed and injured and to instead tend to the vulnerable places in which you have been injured multiple times. "Be aware," Dr. Robin says. "Ask yourself where you have received multiple injuries, where has your heart been disappointed or betrayed. Give the wounded place special care so that the place where you are most vulnerable, you can build up and protect from all hurt and harm."
