He's the self-proclaimed "makeup artist to the stars" and the man behind the face of Oprah Winfrey! Reggie Wells joins Gayle to share his top beauty secrets and to talk about his own story of success.
Reggie says he was just 17 years old when he saw Diahann Carroll on the TV show The Hollywood Palace wearing a beautiful hairpiece, extraordinarily long eyelashes and an elegant gown. "I fell in love with her and said, 'I want to go to New York and make every woman as beautiful as Diahann Carroll,'" he says. Since then, he has worked on many famous faces, including Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child, Chaka Khan and more. He has worked as Oprah's makeup artist for 18 years!
Reggie says his 33 years of experience has taught him how to easily pinpoint a woman's best facial feature. "Every woman always points out the negative instead of the positive," Reggie says. "When a woman sits down in front of me, I have to zero in on what she really needs. Most women don't know the prettiest part of her face."
Reggie says older women don't need to resort to face lifts and tucks—putting on makeup skillfully can change your entire appearance. "You can do things by the way you place your makeup," he says. Reggie also dispels the myth that you should always buy pricey cosmetics to get a polished look. "This is a really strong point of mine: You don't have to pay a lot of money for perfect makeup."
Reggie says his passion in life is making women look beautiful. "I love women. Women are the cause of me being where I am today … I look back on my life and say I've done everything I ever set my mind to do," Reggie says.
