As a well-known hip-hop artist, entrepreneur and author, Master P has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry. Master P, whose real name is Percy Miller, talks to Gayle about how his success has changed him and how he's helping change the lives of others.
After starting his own record label with money he received from a medical malpractice lawsuit involving his grandfather, Master P made his way to the top, becoming one of America's highest-paid entertainers with a net worth of more than $500 million in 2002.
Master P says he has learned a lot along his path to fame and realizes the importance of helping others. He says he wanted to help fight the negativity many rap artists are associated with, such as violence, gangs and drug abuse. "I looked at the negative things that were going on with hip-hop, and I said, 'Okay, how can I disassociate myself with this?'" he says. Now, Master P says the songs he produces have positive connotations and messages for kids.
As the father of seven children, Master P says he has learned that life is not about making money for yourself, but rather about building a foundation of wealth for your loved ones and educating your children properly to ensure their success. "We can do what we want to do and we can be successful if we realize that it's a choice," he says. "It's not about what we have right now, but it's about what we will have in the future and what my grandkids and their kids are going to have."
