He's an important behind-the-scenes producer on Oprah Radio, but John St. Augustine says his road to success was full of ups, downs and life lessons. Holly and Rodney talk with John about his career and his book, Living an Uncommon Life: Essential Lessons from 21 Extraordinary People.
From two near-death experiences—first as a teenager, then as a newlywed—to a soul-searching 1,000-mile journey on foot from Northern Michigan to Chicago, John says his life has been anything but common. After more than a decade of hosting a popular national radio show and meeting many inspirational people along the way, John says he was motivated to write Living an Uncommon Life. "One of the major themes of Living an Uncommon Life is that the things that are imparted on us that we think are accidents usually are incidents to help us grow—and we don't see it that way until much later," he says.
While John says he's learned many lessons in life and through others, he says he's still learning. As has been the case for years, he says he'll continue sharing what he learns with people he encounters every day. "Inform people, inspire people and empower them," John says. "If those three things are part of your vernacular and part of your makeup and genetic code, you are going to make a profound impact on the planet—you can't help but not."
