![]() Would you ever consider plastic surgery? From tummy tucks to facelifts to breast augmentation, millions of people are going under the knife to maintain their youthful appearances. Dr. Oz talks to Dr. Rod Rohrich, chairman of the department of plastic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and past president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, about the trends in plastic surgery and how to determine if it's right for you.
An internationally renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Rohrich has been conducting cosmetic procedures for more than two decades. He says the number of plastic surgeries has increased dramatically and will continue to grow. "I think it's a reflection of our society," he says. "With the aging of the baby boomers—they don't want to grow old gracefully. They want to look as good as they feel, and now there is a safe and effective [way] of doing that." According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top five surgical cosmetic procedures in 2005 include liposuction—with more than 324,000 people undergoing the procedure—nose reshaping, breast augmentation, eyelid surgery and tummy tucks. Dr. Rohrich says one of the most important things to do when considering a surgery, such as liposuction, is to find the right doctor and ask the right questions:
