While driving her dog to the animal hospital, Dr. Robin saw a hearse near a hospital. It was then that Dr. Robin realized that on any given day, our lives are filled with so many moments of possibility, despair and hopelessness. "As I was feeling relief, someone was feeling grief," she says. "On any given day, one moment holds weddings and funerals, births and deaths and new beginnings and endings."
Dr. Robin says it's important to be present in whatever this moment brings. If it's a moment of sorrow, let yourself be present and then stay open to the next moment that can bring you joy, she says. If you're in a moment of joy, celebrate it and seize the moment for all it's worth. "On any given day, our job is to open our hearts and show up for the moment that is ours, right now, on this day," Dr. Robin says. Published on August 12, 2008
