![]() He knows talent when he sees it! Mathew Knowles is the father and manager of singing sensation Beyoncé, and now he's found another breakout talent—14-year-old rapper J Xavier. Mathew and J Xavier join the show to talk about what it takes to be a star. Plus, Gayle talks to J Xavier about his burgeoning music career.
Before going solo, Beyoncé was part of the hit group Destiny's Child. Mathew says it was actually the ladies of Destiny's Child who first brought J Xavier to his attention following one of their concerts in Houston. As soon as he saw J Xavier perform, he knew he had discovered someone special. "You could just tell immediately: star quality," Mathew says. Mathew says he sees many similarities between his daughter and J Xavier. "[He] just reminded me so much of Beyoncé when she was 12 years old, just the sparkle, the desire and the talent," he says. "You can't manufacture that—you either have that or you don't have it—and J. Xavier has that." With the recent release of his first album, Young Prince of tha South, J Xavier is stirring up fans around the country who couldn't agree more with Mathew's take on the young talent. One of five siblings and the son of a minister, J Xavier says he like to keep his lyrics "clean and positive" for all of his fans, no matter their age. J Xavier says he loves what he does and looks forward to developing his craft. As J Xavier's co-manager, Mathew says he sees a bright future for the teen rapper. "He's so focused, and he works so very hard and he wants this," Mathew says. "He has a passion and that's the key word."
