Making Worthwhile Choices

Dr. Robin Smith
Are you in a miserable job or a bad marriage? Do you live your life carrying grudges and pain? Dr. Robin says it's time to gain some perspective. Recently, her friend's granddaughter—a 21-year-old woman on the brink of a successful career in television production—died of a massive stroke after a car accident. Dr. Robin says the young woman's death should be a reminder to everyone that life is too short to make choices that are not worth your time and don't feed your passion.

Assess your life and decide what should stay and what should go, Dr. Robin says. "Who are the people we want to keep? What are the circumstances and what are the things that need to be kicked to the curb today?" she asks.

Weeding out the things that are dragging you down can be difficult, but therapy or a friend's support can help you start the process of living a life that is worthy of your time on earth, Dr. Robin says. "It's worth making a decision that you're going to maximize your life at this very moment, which is the only gift that we are promised," she says.
