Have you overcome a a painful situation, only to realize later that you're still dealing with trauma from the event? Dr. Robin says when you realize you've "been through something that isn't through with you," you need to take a deep breath and focus on the problem. "The only way to get past something is to work through it," she says. "Face it with compassion and courage and honesty."
While you may be fearful of revisiting something painful, Dr. Robin says once you stop running away the issue and stop blaming and shaming yourself, you will make peace with the past. "Just make room, safe room, for you to sit with yourself and make peace," she says.
