Make Special Moments Last

Dr. Robin Smith
Have you ever wanted something to last forever? Perhaps you had a vacation, love affair or friendship that was so sweet, magical and meaningful that you just wished it would never end.

While nothing on this earth really lasts forever, Dr. Robin says the way to make special relationships and experiences feel everlasting is by being fully present in the moment. "This moment right now [is] eternity, meaning it's all we really have," she says. "Yesterday's moment is gone, and tomorrow's moment isn't promised—it's not here yet—but this moment has its own magic. It has its own eternity in it. It has its own everlasting status and quality."

Dr. Robin says if you're not fully present in the moment, you'll find yourself missing out—you'll long for the past, trying in vain to recreate those lost moments. But when you embrace and savor each "magic" moment in your own life, you can make it everlasting, she says. "How you bring immortality into this mortal moment is to live this moment," she says. "Breathe it in and let it be all it can be right now."
