Dr. Robin Smith

Is it better to look good or feel good? Dr. Robin says there is value in taking care of appearances, but more often than not, too much emphasis is put on looks. "The world that we live in—television, print, radio, the neighbors, what people are talking about at dinner parties around the table—it's so externally referenced … there is very little focus really put on the internal world," she says.

You may be wealthy and look flawless, but if you are not kindhearted and happy, your life may feel empty, Dr. Robin says. What you should try to achieve is a balance between looking and feeling good, she says. "When you think of having good, strong self-esteem, what we are really talking about is the balance between looking good and feeling good."
