Lifelong Learning

Dr. Robin Smith
No matter how wise you are or how often others seek your advice, Dr. Robin says if you aren't continuously learning new things during the course of your life, your help may not be relevant to others. "We don't just want to be alive and stuck in an old way of doing things," she says. "We want to live and learn."

Perhaps your daughter doesn't want your constant input on how to potty train her child. Don't take it personally—instead, try to understand your daughter's method and continue growing and learning, Dr. Robin says. "Are you willing to decide that there is a lot of stuff you need to learn?" she asks. "Dig deep and decide whether or not you are not just going to speak the words, but you are going to live the words," she says. "[Then] you'll live and you'll learn."
