Gayle King and Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington's star is on the rise. The 30-year-old actress has landed roles in several popular movies over the past few years, including Ray and The Last King of Scotland, and now, the New York native is on Hollywood's hot and single list. Gayle talks to Kerry about her climb to stardom, her love life and her future career plans.

As a child growing up in the Bronx, Kerry says she was involved in dancing, signing and acting and always dreamed of being in movies. "I feel really blessed because this was what I have always wanted for myself," Kerry says. "I didn't want to be limited by my age or my race or where I come from. I wanted to be a true actor, a chameleon."

While her career is on track, for the first time in years Kerry says she isn't in a serious relationship. "I have made a commitment to myself to not jump into a relationship, so I am really dating a few people," she says. After a recent breakup with a long-term boyfriend, which ended in a broken engagement, she decided it was time to not be anyone's girlfriend. "I really want to hold to that because I want to make sure my next relationship is a choice, not a habit," she says.

In the summer of 2007, Kerry reprises a role in the sequel to the comic book superhero movie The Fantastic Four. She says her next film, Cracktown, which is a dark, independent movie, will be hitting the film festival circuit.
