As an anchor for CNN's Headline News, wife and mother of two, journalist Linda Stouffer knows what it takes to be a successful woman and still manage to have a fulfilling personal life. Jean talks with Linda about how she got her start in broadcast journalism and how she balances her career with her personal life.

Linda wanted to be a writer for Time magazine while growing up, but things changed when a college professor suggested an internship in television news. "From the first day that I walked into a television newsroom, I never left," Linda says. "You have to start small and be willing to do the hard work."

You often don't get paid for the work you do in order to get ahead, Linda says."You may not be getting overtime when you stay late to put [together] a second piece, but it will be worth it in the end when your resume tape is better," she says. "It's about the goodwill that you can build up and hopefully take advantage of later."

Linda is married to CBS News correspondent Mark Strassmann and says she's happy she's able to balance her career and caring for her children while her husband travels the world on assignment. "I think we are unusual in that it's worked out for both of us to be in the business at this level in the same city for as long as it has been," Linda says. "I feel very fortunate that I get to drive home every night and do the bedtime stories and the goodnight kisses."
