When listeners call in to Dr. Robin's show to share their stories, they are often brought to tears. Sometimes it's out of sadness or grief, other times they cry for joy or gratitude. No matter what the reason, Dr. Robin says she has just one rule on her show: Never apologize for tears. Dr. Robin says this is a rule you can apply to your own life, too, because tears are teachers—they reflect our true emotions to ourselves and those around us.
If you're coping with a difficult situation, Dr. Robin says you shouldn't bottle up your feelings. While you may think it's best to hide your sorrow from friends and family who may also be grieving, Dr. Robin says allowing yourself to cry can be a comfort to others to know you share their grief and pain. "Be bold with courage and let all your feelings come to the surface," she says. "It just might be the very gift that someone you know needs."
