Everyone has insecurities, and Rabbi Shmuley says it's important to connect with others to combat these feelings. Rabbi Shmuley discusses the common reasons behind his belief that insecurity plagues society.
Rabbi Shmuley says insecurity stems from a feeling of detachment, alienation and purposelessness. "Since our lives are disconnected from something higher, we feel lost," Rabbi Shmuley says. "We lack confidence. We focus on what we lack rather than what we have."
Types of Insecurities:
Rabbi Shmuley says the best way to rid yourself of insecurities is by reconnecting with family, community and faith. "The more you feel your life affecting others, the more your insecurities recede," he says.
"Insecurity grips us whenever we feel that our lives are detached from a higher purpose. All the designer clothes in the world are not going to make us feel good about our own name. External things can never confer significance. We become strong by being attached to that which is life-affirming and eternal."
