She is a trainer to the stars and one of the country's leading healthy lifestyle coaches. Fitness expert Jeanette Jenkins, founder and president of The Hollywood Trainer fitness company, joins Gayle to talk about her approach to health and her new book, The Hollywood Trainer Weight-Loss Plan: 21 Days to Make Healthy Living a Lifetime Habit.
Jeanette says she can trace her passion for working out to her childhood. Raised in government housing by her single-parent mother, Jeanette says sports were her babysitter. At the same time, she says she excelled as an athlete, which led her to pursue a future career as a trainer. "It was something where I noticed, 'Okay, I'm doing well in this and people are noticing,' and so I wanted to keep doing it," she says.
Jeanette says her fitness plan includes a 21-day, step-by-step diet and exercise regimen, plus daily reflections and workout music selections to keep people motivated. She says she decided to go with a 21-day plan for her book after seeing Queen Latifah, one of her celebrity clients, successfully quit smoking in 21 days—the amount of time experts say it takes to make or break a habit.
While Jeanette says her plan is easy to follow and will help followers create healthy behaviors for life, she encourages joining a club or hiring a trainer to help you meet your goals. "There's nothing wrong with hiring professional help," Jeanette says. "We do it for our teeth, we do it for our eyes, we do it for fixing our car—why not for the health of our body?"
