From Ja Rule and Ashanti to Vanessa Carlton and Lloyd, Irv Gotti has produced records for some of the music industry's shining stars. Irv talks with Gayle about his successful career and about his family, featured in the VH1 reality TV show Gotti's Way.
In 2005, Irv was facing 20 years in federal prison for money laundering charges stemming from his association with a good friend who is a convicted drug dealer. Irv says the trial was negatively affecting his career in the music industry, but now, he says he's back on top of his game. "Once the acquittal came in I knew [the record industry] would call me again and they sure did," he says. Along with his resurgence in the record industry, as CEO of the record label The Inc., Irv says he was approached by VH1 to tape a reality show about his career and life as a husband and father. The experience has captured highs in his career and lows in his personal life, including an impending divorce with his wife, Deb, Irv says. Despite having his private life on display, Irv says he's going to continue with another season of the reality TV show and hopes to showcase the success of his artists and the love he has for his family.
