Have you ever looked around a room in your home and thought, "something's missing?" Nate reveals how to put the finishing touches on a room. And, what if the thing that's missing is a sense of who you really are? Nate shows another caller how to reflect her personality in her decor.

Nate's first caller says she knows exactly what she likes, but the master bedroom in her newly redecorated home has her stumped. A brand-new chaise, cushions and draperies carry the African-Bahamas-safari theme she loves, but she says something is still missing.

What's Nate's advice? Go to either an antique shop or flea market and find something that is not new, and not a part of the theme to add balance, layers of interest and detail to the room.

"A well-rounded room starts with a theme but the truth is, it brings a lot of different elements that seemingly wouldn't have anything to do with each other into one space," Nate says. "That's how you create something that's really uniquely personal."

Upon turning 50, another caller says she realized her home reflects her husband's tastes and style more than her own. Now, she wants to blend her Italian heritage with her husband's Chinese heritage, but doesn't know where to begin.

Nate says a book store or library is the perfect place to get inspiration. Browse books on all things Italian—including design, history and art—to get a feel for what works and what you like. Then, whether you prefer contemporary of classic designs, go for authenticity and timelessness. Steer clear of mass-produced consumer interpretations of Italian design. "Look to the past to figure out the future in design," says Nate.
