Dr. Robin Smith

During a recent business trip to an unfamiliar city, Dr. Robin says she got lost while taking a walk and ended up in a dangerous and deserted neighborhood. What's worse, she wasn't carrying any money and the heel on her shoe broke, making it difficult for her to even walk. Dr. Robin says it was an embarrassing scenario, but when she spotted a police officer, she decided to ask for help and was given a ride back to her hotel in the back of a squad car.

Dr. Robin says there comes a point when you must realize that you're in over your head and you must ask for help—whether it's from a neighbor, a psychologist or even a police officer—anyone who can give you the assistance you need. Be willing to humble yourself, she says, and reach out when you're in need. "Let help—in whatever form it shows up in—come your way," she says.
