Oftentimes, we jump to conclusions even when we don't have all the facts, Dr. Robin says. It might be about a new relationship, a candidate running for a political office or a social issue we haven't fully researched. Caught up in emotions, a media frenzy or our busy lives, we can easily lose the substance of an important matter and go off course with our thinking, she says. "We hear a few words that set our minds off or that stir our pots and we stop listening," Dr. Robin says. "We stop engaging in the process of really delving deeply."
Whether you've met a new love interest or you're trying to pick a presidential candidate that you can wholeheartedly support, Dr. Robin encourages us to pay attention and get the whole picture. The more involved you become and the more information you gather, the better off you'll be when you make your final decision, she says. "Listen to what your heart says, listen to what your head says … because you want to grow and learn."
