According to Rabbi Shmuley, children aren't emotionally equipped to handle fights. So, when you fight with your spouse in front of your children, you're robbing them of their innocence, he says. "There is nothing in them that can handle that trauma," he says. "Your first job as a parent is to protect your child."
When children are exposed to arguments, tension and fighting, they lose the belief that there is underlying unity in the world, Rabbi Shmuley says. This causes them to think that the world is all about conflict.
Teach your children about peace and cooperation. "Make your children believe that there is an underlying unity in creation," he says. "It won't come from preaching it—it will only come from building it."
