Have you made promises to yourself or people in your life that you haven't fulfilled? Dr. Robin says that many times we try to do the right thing, but often, without thinking, we revert back to bad behavior.
Are you trying to be a good mother, but you still lose your temper with your kids? Are you trying to be a respectful manager, but you can't control your frustration with your employees? When you fall short on the promises you have made, Dr. Robin says your efforts no longer have as much meaning. She says that focusing on your promises and being aware of your behavior should be part of your daily life. "Maybe if you find a different way and a more consistent way to show respect, to honor respect and to model what you want to see in them, you may end up getting the very thing you have been looking for," she says.
