Effective Communication

Dr. Robin Smith
When you talk to certain people, do you feel like you're entering into the conversation at your own risk? Perhaps someone's loud, overbearing and overly critical demeanor makes them difficult to talk to, and you just don't want to hear a word they have to say?

Or, maybe you've found yourself on the other side of the equation—when you tell it like it is, you find that people are just too sensitive and emotional. You believe that they are the ones who need to change and toughen up.

When you're having trouble communicating, Dr. Robin says it might be time to check yourself—check your tone, your timing and your words. "Make sure that all of your communication is coming from a place of awakened awareness, so that you can be in tune with yourself and the audience that you're speaking with," she says.

Deliver your message with the right intention and the right approach so it will be taken to heart rather than ignored. "You get to share … and you do it at the right time, in the right way with the right attitude and you get the outcome that you really want," Dr. Robin says.
