Designer Donna Karan
Gayle King

People of all backgrounds and talents are gathering in New Orleans for V to the Tenth, an event marking the 10-year anniversary of V-Day, a global movement to end violence against women. Gayle talks with fashion designer Donna Karan about her work in the fashion industry and about her passion to spread health and wellness with others through her charitable organization, Urban Zen.

Donna says the principles of Urban Zen are to preserve culture, encourage well-being and empower children. "We have seminars," she says. "We bring [in] like-minded people to inspire and bring organizations together … [to] infiltrate change."

Healing others and herself through spiritual and physical well-being is something Donna says she is passionate about. "It is what keeps me grounded," she says. "My yoga, my meditation, my groundedness, gets me prepared for every day." Donna hopes to inspire women at the V to the Tenth event to embrace integrative medicine and charitable organizations that promote holistic healing. "We, as women, are beautiful. And we, as women, are the healers. And we, as women, must heal ourselves first to be able to heal the next person," she says.
