![]() Do you hold your breath during stressful situations? Or maybe you feel like you stop breathing. Dr. Robin says instead of denying yourself of oxygen and losing your breath when you feel anxious, you should breathe deeply. "There is something about breathing that gives more than physical life—it gives you abundant life," she says.
Whether you breathe deeply while counting to 10 or you turn to a practice like yoga, Dr. Robin says you will find relief in deep breathing. Once you start physically breathing deeply Dr. Robin says you will start to send your body and mind important messages. "You are telling your mind and you are training your body that the things you have control over—like your breath—can actually become tools to managing really stressful situations," she says.
